Answer to continue safely

Is it safe to keep using?

Maybe. The machine still brews but hygiene and taste degrade without cleaning. Run the cycle soon.

Can I reset the code?

Yes. Completing the automatic cleaning program clears CLEAN and resets the maintenance counter.

When to stop immediately?

Stop if you notice: CLEAN becomes a hard lockout and the machine refuses to brew entirely, Cleaning solution does not flow through the machine, indicating a blockage.

Symptoms You May Notice

Coffee tastes bitter, stale, or has an off-flavor

Accumulated coffee oils and old grounds residue inside the brew unit and internal tubing impart rancid or bitter flavors to every cup.

CLEAN message appears on the CM24 display

The built-in maintenance counter has reached the preset brew count (typically 200 to 250 cycles) and is prompting for an internal cleaning cycle.

Brew unit becomes difficult to remove or reinsert

Coffee residue buildup on the brew unit rails and piston makes the unit stick during removal and reinsertion, requiring more force than normal.

Coffee dispensing speed gradually decreases

Over several weeks, brew times grow longer as coffee oil residue builds up on the brew unit screen, gradually restricting water flow through the coffee puck.

Possible Causes

1

Accumulated coffee oil residue in the brew circuit

Natural oils from coffee beans accumulate on the brew unit piston, screen, and internal tubing with each brew cycle. Without periodic cleaning, these oils turn rancid and restrict flow.

2

Cleaning cycle interval reached

The CM24 internal counter has tracked the number of brew cycles since the last cleaning and has reached the threshold. This is a maintenance reminder, not a fault.

Safe Checks You Can Do

These checks are safe for homeowners. No disassembly required. Do not remove panels or access internal components.
  1. 1

    Run the automatic cleaning program

Place a cleaning tablet (Dacor-recommended or generic espresso machine cleaning tablet) in the ground coffee bypass chute or designated tablet slot. Select the cleaning program from the CM24 maintenance menu and let it complete.

The cleaning cycle takes about 15 minutes and dispenses cleaning solution from the spouts. Place a container under the spout to catch the runoff.

  2. 2

Remove and deep-clean the brew unit

Open the service door, press the release lever, and slide out the brew unit. Rinse under warm running water, using a soft brush to scrub the mesh screen and piston seal grooves. Allow to air dry completely.

Do not use soap on the brew unit — it can leave residue that affects coffee taste. Warm water and a brush are sufficient.

  3. 3

    Wipe the brew chamber interior

With the brew unit removed, look into the brew chamber with a flashlight. Wipe out any accumulated grounds or residue with a damp cloth wrapped around a wooden spoon handle.

Pay attention to the shower screen at the top of the chamber — old grounds often pack behind it and contribute to off-flavors.

When to Call a Professional

Contact a qualified technician if:

  • Cleaning cycle counter does not reset after a completed cleaning cycle, suggesting a control board issue
  • Blockage in the cleaning flow path prevents solution from circulating
  • Brew group seals are worn and need replacement alongside cleaning
