This samsung washer recall advisory covers important safety information that every Dacor owner should review.
Recall date: November 2016
Product: Samsung top-load washing machines (34 model numbers)
Units affected: Approximately 2,800,000
Sold: March 2011 through November 2016
Hazard: The drums in the recalled washers can lose balance during high-speed spin cycles — particularly when washing bedding, water-resistant, or bulky items — causing excessive vibration that may result in the top separating from the washer body. This posed a risk of impact injuries from the detached top panel.
Why This Matters for Dacor Owners
Samsung acquired Dacor in 2016, the same year this recall was issued. While Dacor does not manufacture washing machines, many Dacor kitchen appliance owners also have Samsung laundry appliances in their homes. This recall is included in our safety database because Samsung is Dacor’s parent company, and we want Dacor households to be aware of all Samsung safety actions that may affect appliances in their home.
Incidents Reported
Samsung received 730 reports of washing machine tops separating during use. Nine injuries were reported. The CPSC described the hazard as the top of the washing machines “completely blowing off” due to insufficient securing in the design.
What to Do
- Check your Samsung washer model number against the CPSC recall list.
- If affected, contact Samsung for a free in-home repair, a rebate toward a new Samsung washer, or a refund.
- Until the repair is completed, use only the delicate or waterproof cycle for bedding and bulky items to reduce spin speed.
