Samsung Slide-In Electric Range Recall: Fire Hazard From Front Knobs

This samsung range recall advisory covers important safety information that every Dacor owner should review.

Recall date: September 2024

Product: Samsung slide-in electric ranges (approximately 30 model numbers)

Units affected: Approximately 1,120,905

Hazard: Front-mounted knobs on the ranges can be activated by accidental contact by humans or pets, posing a fire hazard. Items left on the cooktop surface can ignite if the range is accidentally activated or left on.

Why This Matters for Dacor Owners

Dacor has been a Samsung subsidiary since 2016. While this recall applies specifically to Samsung-branded slide-in electric ranges and does not include Dacor-branded models, Dacor owners should be aware of this safety concern because Samsung and Dacor share engineering teams, component suppliers, and manufacturing facilities. Dacor owners with any Samsung-branded ranges in their household should check whether their unit is affected.

Incidents Reported

Samsung received over 300 reports of unintentional activation of the front-mounted knobs. These incidents resulted in approximately 250 fires, at least 18 of which caused extensive property damage. Approximately 40 injuries were reported, with eight requiring medical attention. Seven fires resulted in pet deaths.

What to Do

  1. Check whether your Samsung range model number is on the recall list at the CPSC recall page.
  2. Contact Samsung to receive a free set of knob locks or covers compatible with your model.
  3. Until knob locks are installed, keep children and pets away from the range knobs.
  4. Check that all range knobs are in the off position before leaving the home or going to bed.
  5. Never leave objects on the cooktop surface when the range is not in use.

Dacor Range Safety Tip

If you own a Dacor Heritage or Contemporary range with front-mounted knobs, adopt the same safety practices: verify knobs are off before leaving the kitchen, keep the cooktop surface clear when not cooking, and consider aftermarket knob covers if children or pets are present in the household. While Dacor ranges are not part of this specific recall, proactive precaution is always recommended for any gas or electric range with front-mounted controls.
