Dacor Gas Range Safety Advisory: Check Gas Connections After Installation

This dacor gas range safety advisory covers important safety information that every Dacor owner should review.

Advisory type: Manufacturer safety best practice

Applies to: All Dacor Heritage, Contemporary, and Transitional gas and dual-fuel ranges and rangetops

Hazard: Improperly tightened gas connections during installation or after service can lead to gas leaks, creating risk of fire, explosion, or carbon monoxide exposure. This is not a product defect — it is an installation and service quality concern that applies to all gas-powered cooking appliances.

Why This Advisory Exists

Dacor Heritage 36-inch and 48-inch dual-fuel ranges, Contemporary gas rangetops, and Transitional cooktops use natural gas or LP connections that must be properly sealed during installation. Industry data shows that gas connection failures are among the most common causes of kitchen fires involving luxury ranges. Dacor ranges use high-BTU burners — Heritage ranges deliver up to 23,000 BTU on the primary burner — which means even a small gas leak can create a dangerous accumulation of gas faster than lower-output appliances.

Recommended Actions

  1. After any new installation or service involving gas connections, apply a soap-and-water solution to all gas fittings and watch for bubbles that indicate a leak.
  2. Install a natural gas detector near your Dacor range at plug height — not on the ceiling, since natural gas is lighter than air but mercaptan (the odorant) settles lower.
  3. Have gas connections professionally inspected annually, especially on Dacor ranges older than five years.
  4. If you smell gas, do not operate any electrical switches or appliances. Open windows, leave the home, and call your gas utility emergency line from outside.
  5. Verify that your Dacor range’s anti-tip bracket is properly installed — this prevents the unit from tipping forward when heavy loads are placed on the oven door.

LP Conversion Note

Dacor Heritage and Contemporary ranges can be converted from natural gas to liquid propane (LP) using manufacturer-supplied conversion kits. LP conversion must be performed by a qualified technician. Improper conversion can result in incorrect flame characteristics, carbon monoxide production, and potential fire hazard. Never attempt LP conversion as a DIY project.
