Dacor Rangetop LOW-GAS Error: Low gas pressure
Dacor rangetop low-gas — essential information for Dacor appliance owners. This dacor rangetop weak flame low gas pressure guide explains what this fault means for your Dacor appliance and how to respond safely. A low gas pressure condition on a Dacor Heritage rangetop produces weak, small, or yellow-tipped flames that dramatically underperform the HRTP series’s […]

Answer to continue safely
Is it safe to keep using?
Yes. Low gas pressure reduces performance but does not create an immediate safety hazard during supervised cooking. However, if the flame is unstable or very weak, do not use the rangetop for unattended cooking until the pressure issue is resolved.
Can I reset the code?
No. Low gas pressure is a supply or regulator issue — there is no appliance reset that will resolve it. The gas supply or internal regulator must be assessed and corrected.
When to stop immediately?
Stop if you notice: Stop using the rangetop if the flame is so weak it extinguishes on its own during cooking., Do not use if the flame is yellow and sooty — incomplete combustion produces carbon monoxide..
Symptoms You May Notice
Burner flame is small, weak, or yellow-tipped
Instead of a strong blue cone flame, the burner produces a pale, soft, or yellow-tipped flame that does not reach the full burner ring. Cooking times are longer than normal and the burner struggles to maintain a rolling boil.
High-BTU burners underperform significantly
The HRTP's 18,000–19,500 BTU power burners feel noticeably weak — comparable to a standard residential burner rather than a professional-grade output. Low gas pressure disproportionately affects the high-BTU burners.
Other gas appliances also underperforming
If the gas oven, dryer, or water heater are also producing weak flames or running longer than normal, the issue is a supply-side gas pressure problem affecting the whole home.
Flame fluctuates without user input
The burner flame height varies on its own, surging and dropping as gas pressure fluctuates from the supply line — particularly noticeable when other gas appliances cycle on simultaneously.
Possible Causes
Low utility gas supply pressure
Gas utility pressure below the 7-inch water column (WC) minimum for natural gas or 11-inch WC for LP can cause weak flames across all appliances. This is a utility or regulator issue, not an appliance fault.
DIY PossibleIncorrectly adjusted or failing gas pressure regulator
The rangetop's internal gas pressure regulator may be set too low or may have partially failed, reducing delivery pressure to the burner orifices below the required level.
Requires ProfessionalPartially clogged burner orifice
A blocked orifice restricts gas flow to the burner, mimicking the symptoms of low supply pressure on a single burner. This can be caused by debris or corrosion in the orifice fitting.
Requires ProfessionalSafe Checks You Can Do
-
1
Check all gas appliances for weak performance
Test other gas appliances in the home (oven, water heater, dryer) for similarly weak or slow performance. If multiple appliances are underperforming, the issue is in the utility supply or home gas regulator — contact your gas utility provider.
Gas utilities can measure delivery pressure at the meter during a scheduled visit.
-
2
Confirm the rangetop is configured for the correct gas type
Verify that the rangetop is configured for the gas type supplied (natural gas or LP). Dacor ships the HRTP series configured for natural gas by default — running it on LP without the LP conversion kit produces symptoms identical to low gas pressure.
The gas type configuration is documented on the rating label inside the rangetop's front drawer or on the unit's data plate.
-
3
Isolate weak performance to one burner or all burners
Test each burner individually at full power. If only one burner is weak while others are strong, a clogged orifice on the weak burner is more likely than a supply pressure issue. If all burners are weak equally, focus on the supply side.
The large power burners on the HRTP486S are most sensitive to pressure drops — if only those are weak, test them at full power with all other burners off.
When to Call a Professional
Contact a qualified technician if:
- All home gas appliances underperforming — gas utility or licensed plumber must assess supply pressure.
- Single-burner weakness after confirming correct gas type — orifice inspection requires a Dacor technician.
- Rangetop regulator adjustment — must only be performed by a licensed gas appliance technician.
